Last month we announced that Zendaya will star in the latest Marvel Studios Spider-Man film titled Spider Man: Homecoming in a key role alongside an ensemble cast including Tom Holland (Peter Parker/Spider-Man), Marisa Tomei, Michael Keaton, Robert Downey Jr, and Donald Glover. The story line of this installation is currently under wraps; however, the story will focus on Peter Parker’s teenage years.
It has been announced that Zendaya will be playing long-time Spider-Man love interest Mary Jane Watson. This role was played by Kirsten Dunst in the first three Spider-Man films. The racially inclusive direction that this character is taking is quite refreshing as Zendaya will be playing the teenage version of Mary Jane Watson.
Zendaya began her acting career with the debut of Shake It Up on the Disney Channel, and has gone on to appear in Dancing with the Stars and Blackish. She recently confirmed that she has landed a key role in Sony’s upcoming “Spider-Man” reboot that will be released in theaters July 2017. She will lend her voice to animated feature film The Guardian Brothers, and currently stars as K.C. Cooper on the Disney Channel’s K.C. Undercover
Spider Man: Homecoming is directed by Jon Watts (Cop Car), written by John Francis Daley & Jonathan M. Goldstein, and produced by Amy Pascal and Kevin Feige. Production is currently underway in Atlanta, Georgia. The expected release date is July 7, 2017.
