There’s more Black Girl content sweeping the airwaves as ABC has begun development for an untitled comedy from Actress-Comedian, Zainab Johnson. Comedy vets Wanda Sykes, Page Hurwitz, and Tom Straw (The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson) are also part of the creative team.

Tom Straw wrote the project based on a story by Straw and Johnson, which centers on a beautiful Muslim model on the brink of her 30th birthday. Her career starts to slow down and she is confronted with unpredictable challenges, causing her to question her life choices, which is totally relatable for many! After being forced to move back home with her opinionated brothers, she realizes that they’re all on the same reinvention quest.

Johnson was the 2013 winner of HBO’s American Black Film Festival Comedy Wings Competition and a semi-finalist on NBC’s Last Comic Standing the following year. She has also appeared in a guest role on ABC’s Private Practice.

Sykes and Hurwitz’s Push It Productions has recently wrapped Face Value, a comedy game show pilot featuring Deon Cole and Tiffany Haddish on BET.

Fortunately, it looks like the Black TV Content hype train isn’t stopping anytime soon and I’m enjoying the ride! I look forward to this series!
