Yvette Nicole Brown (The Odd Couple, Community) has been cast in ABC’s untitled City Mayor comedy pilot, produced by Hamilton star Daveed Diggs! While her co-starring gig, The Odd Couple, is in limbo after not receiving a Season 3 back order, we’re glad to see that she has exciting new prospects ahead!
The pilot is written by Jeremy Bronson and centers on Courtney Rose (Brandon Michael Hall), a struggling hip-hop artist who runs for mayor to promote his mixtape and subsequently wins. Brown will portray Dina, Courtney’s chatty and dramatic single mom who birthed him when she was a teenager. While his mom first, Dina is also Courtney’s best friend and biggest cheerleader, and is who he comes to for advice. She is a big personality and even bigger laugh and works at the post office. The project also stars Lea Michele and Bernard Jones.
The project comes from ABC Studios and Jamie Tarses, Scott Stuber & Dylan Clark’s studio-based Bluegrass FanFare. Bronson and Diggs will serve as Executive Producers alongside Tarses, Stuber and Clark. James Griffiths, who directed the Black-ish pilot, will direct and executive produce this pilot.
Brown has an extensive history with Community, playing the ever-popular Shirley Bennett for six seasons on the NBC/Yahoo cult comedy hit. She has TV credits such as The War At Home, Malcolm in the Middle, That’s So Raven, Drake & Josh, and The Office (US). She currently portrays Dani on The Odd Couple.
Given the talent behind it, we’re so excited for this upcoming project and doubly excited to enjoy Brown’s bubbly energy onscreen!
