Whoopi Goldberg signed a deal with Bravo to produce an untitled drama revolving around a Harlem crime boss who is reunited with her oldest son — whom she thought was dead — after he returns to New York City to run for mayor. Being able to pass as white, he faked his death as a teenager and left New York in order to get a new start on life.

Goldberg is set to executive produce the project alongside her One Ho Productions president Tom Leonardis.  She is also considering taking on the lead role of the Harlem crime boss in the drama.  Her contract with The View expires at the end of it’s current 20th season, and it is currently unclear how this potential role will impact her future on the daytime talk series.

44 Blue Productions’ Stephanie Drackovitch will also serve as executive producer, and Amitabh Klemm (Swing State, The Art of Stalking, Lifeline) will pen the script and exec produce the project.

Goldberg is currently a host on The View where she is in the last year of her four year contract, and will be a guest star in ABC’s eight hour miniseries, When We Rise, a seven part series about the gay rights movement, alongside Michael K. Williams.  She is also set to star in a drama revolving around the 9/11 attack titled Nine Eleven alongside Charlie Sheen, and also serves as executive producer on the Oxygen series Strut which revolves around a transgender modeling agency.
