Film Fatales, it’s time to showcase your awesome! Glamour Magazine has announced they are partnering up with digital media company Girlgaze for the #NewView competition, which will showcase work from female filmmakers!
The judges of the competition include Shonda Rhimes, Tracee Ellis Ross, Rashida Jones, Amandla Stenberg, Zendaya, Jada Pinkett Smith, Dee Rees and more!
Tracee Ellis Ross posted a spirited announcement of the competition on her Instagram page recently, encouraging female filmmakers around the world to highlight their points of view:
“Obviously much has been written and said about the barriers for women directors and we all know the statistics,” explained Glamour editor-in-chief Cindi Leive. “But we wanted to do something that was more meaningful than just discussing and reporting on the problem.”
Girlgaze founder Amanda de Cadenet agreed noting, “Our objective at Girlgaze is to help females close the gender gap by telling their stories. We are choosing to support this demo because they deserve a seat at the table.”
Overall, Leive and de Cadenet summed up what they’re looking for in two words: “Be yourself.”
To enter, directors must create an original short film — three to five minutes in length — that showcases their perspective on an issue, their own life, or on greater culture. From the submitted films, five winners will be chosen by Leive and de Cadenet, along with the listed judging panel.
The winning filmmakers will have their submissions released on Glamour.com and Girlgaze.com, and will be awarded $3000, in addition to a production budget to create a short film for Glamour, or one of the major brands Birchbox, LuMee, THE OUTNET.com or South Coast Plaza.
Entries are being accepted through June 30. For more information on competition rules and to submit head to the New View website here.
