Nicole Ari Parker has landed a key role in a new ABC time travel drama series by Kevin Williamson.  Parker will be replacing Regina Taylor who was originally cast in the pilot.

The series is based off of the 1979 novel titled Time After Time written by Karl Alexander.  The story revolves around the adventures of young famed science fiction writer H.G. Wells, who is transported to modern day Manhattan in pursuit of the infamous Jack the Ripper.  H.G. arrives in New York City, and he finds a world he never thought was possible and a young woman who captivates him.

Parker will play the intelligent and sophisticated Vanessa Anders, a billionaire philanthropist, avid art collector and the current owner of the Time Machine. She will become a trusted ally of H.G. even as she guards the secrets that could change his past and alter his future.

The cast also includes Freddie Stroma, Josh Bowman and Genesis Rodriguez.

Parker is known for her breakout role on the hit series Soul Food.  Since then she has starred in classic films such as Dancing in September written and directed by Reggie Rock Bythewood, Brown Sugar directed by Rick Famuyiwa, Malcolm D. Lee’s Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins, King’s Ransom directed by Jeff Byrd, and 35 and Ticking written and directed by Russ Parr.  Most recently, she was a recurring cast member on the FOX series Rosewood alongside Morris Chestnut, and can be seen next on the big screen in Universal Pictures’ holiday film Almost Christmas alongside Danny Glover, Gabrielle Union and Mo’Nique
