The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) has partnered with Instagram to launch a digital shorts competition titled TIFFxInstagram Shorts Festival.

The festival invites aspiring and established content creators from around the world to upload original 60-seconds-or-fewer short films via Instagram using the hashtag #TIFFINSTAGRAM. 30 finalists will be selected by TIFF programmers, and will have their films displayed on the film festival’s website and on their Instagram page from August 8th – August 17th. The shorts with the most likes have the opportunity to win the Fan Favorite Award. A jury consisting of 6 entertainment professionals including filmmaker Ava DuVernay (Selma, Queen Sugar), filmmaker Xavier Dolan (Mommy), music video director Nabil Elderkin and stop-motion animation artist Rachel Ryle, will choose the final winner for the Judge’s Choice Award.

Instagram short films can be submitted HERE until July 20th, and the Awards for the inaugural TIFFxInstagram Shorts Festival will be announced on August 18th.
