TriStar has preemptively acquired rights to The Perfect Mother, a thriller novel by Aimee Molloy, and Kerry Washington is currently attached to star in the film.  The film will be produced through her Simpson Street production banner, and Washington will produce alongside Amy Pascal and Nicole Brown.

The novel revolves around a Brooklyn group called May Mothers, where a group of moms meet up to socialize and relish a couple hours away from their babies. The evening takes a tragic turn when Winnie, the single mother of the group, learns that her six-week-old son, Midas, has been abducted from his crib. Over the course of thirteen days, three new moms go to increasingly desperate lengths to find Midas alive. In the process, damaging secrets are revealed, marriages are tested, and friendships are created and destroyed.

Last year, Washington signed an overall deal with ABC Studios for her newly launched production company Simpson Street (named after the street where Washington’s mom grew up in the Bronx).  Under the two-year agreement, Simpson Street will develop broadcast, cable and digital projects exclusively for ABC Studios and ABC Signature.  Washington is also executive producing ABC drama project Patrol, about four female LAPD officers, which is written by Chitra Elizabeth Sampath.  Simpson Street’s first movie was the HBO film Confirmation, in which Washington starred as attorney and academic Anita Hill, and The Perfect Mother could possibly be the first film from her production company to hit theaters.  We look forward to following the progress of this film as more information is revealed!
