Tessa Thompson (Creed, Dear White People), will star in Thor: Ragnarok, the third installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise.  Taika Waititi (What We Do in the Shadows) will direct this project, and according to the Hollywood Reporter shooting will begin in June.

Thompson will star in the Thor alongside Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, and Jaimie Alexander, Natalie Portman, and Mark Ruffalo who will reprise his role as Bruce Banner/The Hulk.

Ironically, Thompson and Portman are also set to star together in Annihilation, directed by Alex Garland, this spring. This film “follows A team of four who set out into a place known as Area X.  The area is abandoned and cut off from the rest of civilization, and they are the 12th expedition.  The other expeditions have been fraught with disappearances, suicides, aggressive cancers, and mental trauma.”

In addition to these two major projects, Thompson is also a lead in HBO’s Westworld series which is currently in production.

It will be interesting to see what role Thompson is being cast for.  Maybe she will play a superhero?  Regardless, this is exciting news!  Thor: Ragnarok is scheduled to be released on November 3, 2017.
