It’s official….Tessa Thompson will voice the Lady in Disney’s Lady and the Tramp!

Thompson has been tapped to voice the Cocker Spaniel opposite Justin Theroux’s Tramp in Disney’s live-action/CGI hybrid remake of the original 1955 film.

The classic story tells the tale of an American Cocker Spaniel named Lady who lives with an upper-middle-class family, but feels neglected when the family has a baby. Lady ends up meeting a mangy stray dog known as the Tramp on the streets. They embark on a romantic journey and eventually fall in love.

The Lego Ninjago Movie director Charlie Bean is helming the remake, which will debut on Disney’s new digital streaming service, set to launch in 2019. Andrew Bujalski wrote the script. Jessica Virtue and Chaz Salembier are overseeing for Disney.

Alongside Thompson and Theroux, Ashley Jensen will play Scottish Terrier Jackie, while Doctor Strange star Benedict Wong has been cast to voice English bulldog Bull. Kiersey Clemons will play the human character Darling, the owner of Lady.
