Netflix has has officially released the date for the premiere of Spike Lee’s 10-episode series She’s Gotta Have It, a contemporary look at Lee’s groundbreaking 1986 indie film.
The series centers on Nola (DeWanda Wise), a Brooklyn-based artist in her late 20s struggling to define herself and divide her time among her friends, her job and her three lovers: the cultured model Greer Childs (Cleo Anthony); the protective investment banker Jamie Overstreet (Lyriq Bent); and Da Original B-Boy Sneakerhead Mars Blackmon (Hamilton alum Anthony Ramos), who still wears Jordans but now is a social-media phenomenon. Wise’s Nola Darling is a sexually liberated, free spirited painter/mixed media artist. Chyna Layne and Ilfenesh Hadeara, Margot Bingham, Sydney Morton and Joie Lee also star.
Spike Lee will direct each episode and executive produce alongside his wife Tonya Lewis Lee, whom Lee credits with having the initial idea to turn his movie into a series.
