Mad Men actress, Sola Bamis has officially joined the upcoming USA Biggie & Tupac Unsolved Anthology.  Bamis has been tapped for the role of Afeni Shakur, a former Black Panther, political activist and the mother of Tupac Shakur.

The scripted true-crime drama chronicles the two major police investigations into the murders of Tupac Shakur and Christopher Wallace aka The Notorious B.I.G., and follows LAPD Detectives Russell Poole and Greg Kading as they work the cases nearly 10 years apart.  The case sheds new light on the demise of Tupac and Biggie Smalls’ friendship that ultimately led to the legendary East Coast vs. West Coast hip hop rivalry.

Shakur died Sept. 13, 1996 after an unsolved shooting in Las Vegas. Biggie passed a few months later, on March 9, 1997 following another unsolved shooting, this time in Los Angeles.

Bamis joins the cast including Marcc Rose who will star as Tupac, Wavyy Jonez who will play Biggie Smalls, Luke James who plays Sean “Puffy” Combs, Aisha Hinds as Voletta Wallace, Biggie’s mother, and LeToya Luckett as Sharitha Golden, the estranged wife of Death Row Records CEO Suge Knight.

The cast also includes Emmy winner Wendell Pierce, Bokeem Woodbine, Josh Duhamel,  Jimmi Simpson, Donald Faison, and Dominic Santana.

The anthology is set to premiere early 2018.

Bamis starred on the Emmy Award-winning series, Mad Men, and was a recurring character on the Freeform series Stitchers. Other television credits include Killer Women and Mistresses on ABC, Perception on TNT, and Jane By Design on ABC Family.
