Actress and singer Sierra McClain will star in a recurring role on the Fox hip-hop drama series Empire.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, McClain will play Nessa, Shine’s (new series regular Xzibit) loyal protégé who, upon first glance, is merely a timid follower to Lucious’ former partner in crime. A second listen, however, reveals she is a rare talent with a killer voice whom Lucious (Terrence Howard) is determined to sign to Empire’s roster.

McClain is the lead singer of the music group The McClain Sisters.  She began her acting career as an extra in the 2005 film, The Gospel alongside her younger sisters, China Anne McClain and Lauryn Alisa McClain.  McClain then went on to star in Tyler Perry’s 2007 film Daddy’s Little Girls alongside her sisters, and also had a guest appearance in Tyler Perry’s House of Payne.

The third season of Empire is scheduled to return on Wednesday, September, 21 at 9 pm on Fox.
