Sharon Leal (Dreamgirls, Grimm) has been cast in the CW superhero series Supergirl as one of newest additions to the DC television universe.

Supergirl was developed by Ali Adler, Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg, and is based on a super heroine who is the biological cousin to Superman and one of the last surviving Kryptonians. The series originally aired on CBS in 2015; however, this season, the series will air on The CW, which will make crossovers among the other super hero shows such as Arrow and The Flash easier.

Leal will portray Miss Martian, also known as M’gann M’orzz or Megan Morse, a white martian who was sent away from Mars during the civil war between the green martians and the white martians.  On Earth, she initially poses as a green martian and joins the Teen Titans.  This character was initially introduced in  2006’s Teen Titans #37.  Similarly to Supergirl, she was sent to Earth at a young age (but from Mars, just like the Martian Manhunter).

Over the past decade, Leal became known for her roles in films such as the film adaptation of the Broadway musical Dreamgirls, This Christmas and in the Tyler Perry production Why Did I Get Married? and Why Did I Get Married Too.  Most recently she starred in the Freeform (ABC Family) series, Revolution Road.

The second season of Supergirl will air on The CW on October 10th!  Check out the trailer for the series below!
