The SAG, Emmy, Golden Globe nominated Actress Kerry Washington is set to receive the SAG-AFTRA Actors Inspiration Award to be presented at its 7th Annual Los Angeles Golf Classic on Monday, June 13th.  The award honors those who have given back to fellow actors and the community at large.

Washington has been a longtime supporter and vocal leader for civil rights and public service.  In 2009, Washington was appointed by President Barack Obama to the President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities.  In 2012, she gave a moving speech at the Democratic National Convention that urged Democrats to get out and vote.  She was recognized for furthering the cause of civil rights and public service and honored with an NAACP Presidents Award in 2013.  Time magazine included her on the annual Time 100 list of Most Influential People in the World in 2014, and she received the GLAAD Media Vanguard Award in 2015 and the ACLU Bill of Rights Award in 2016.

Washington recently signed an overall deal with ABC Studios for her newly launched production company Simpson Street.  In 2012, she became the first black woman to lead an American network drama series since 1974, and during her second season on Scandal, she went on to become the first African-American woman to be nominated in the category of Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series in 18 years.

The LA Golf Classic is one of the biggest celebrity golf tournaments with over 125 actors and entertainment industry executives expected to participate in the 2016 event.  Previous recipients of the SAG-AFTRA Foundation’s Actors Inspiration Award are Sofia Vergara and Leonardo DiCaprio, who were recognized in 2015 for their philanthropic work.
