This weekend, Queen Latifah won a SAG Award for Outstanding Female in a TV Movie/Mini Series for her performance in ‘Bessie,’ where she gave one of the most inspiring speeches of the night:

“I have often been told I’m not thin enough, I’m not white enough, I’m not short enough, I’m not man enough.  Dammit, I am enough. I am Queen Latifah, and I am an actor.” – Queen Latifah

The Queen is now gearing up to Executive Produce a Lifetime original movie titled ‘The Real MVP: The Wanda Pratt Story’ alongside her producing partner Shakim Compere and their Flavor Unit Team.

The film tells the true story of the inspiring life of Wanda Pratt, a single mom who struggled at the age of 21 to raise her two sons, Tony and NBA star Kevin Durant.  When he was named NBA’s Most Valuable Player in 2014, Kevin Durant dedicated his speech to Wanda, naming her “the real MVP” for all of her sacrifices that allowed him to pursue his dreams. This touching moment bought tears to millions of people across the globe.

Production is currently underway in Vancouver, and the film will air on Mother’s Day, Sunday May 8, on Lifetime.

Cassandra Freeman (Inside Man, Single Ladies), Tracie Thoms (Cold Case, Rent), Pauletta Washington (Wilma), Daniel Bellomy, Nic Few (Major Crimes, The Exes), and Demarius Mack (Real Husbands Of Hollywood) are all set to star in this film.

“Latifah and I are so lucky to be able to collaborate with Wanda Pratt on her story. Wanda’s tale is both empowering and inspirational and we cannot wait for the Lifetime audience to see it.” – Shakim Compere.
