Queen Latifah and her long time partner Shakim Compere are set to produce a new indie comedy titled The Trap alongside Mike Epps and Niles Kirchner of Naptown Productions.  Tip “T.I.” Harris and his partner Brian Sher will also produce under his Grand Hustle Films banner.  The film will star both Epps and Harris, and will be directed by Chris Robinson (New Edition: The Movie).  Robinson is also producing the script penned by Nile Evans.

The Trap revolves around a man (T.I.) who returns home to Atlanta after an extended absence to help save his brother (Epps) and mother’s run-down restaurant. An unexpected change to the chicken recipe breathes new life into the restaurant but also brings unexpected problems.

Flavor Unit has produced features such as Bringing Down the House and Beauty Shop, while for the small screen, their credits include Bessie and Dear Mama, among others. Dear Mama, produced for VH1, has recently been renewed as an annual special.

Latifah recently appeared in the feature film  Miracles From Heaven, and on the TV side, she played the Wiz on The Wiz Live! and won a Golden Globe nomination for her starring role in Bessie on HBO.  She can be seen next in the Lee Daniels-directed TV pilot Star, and will lend her voice to the next movie in the Ice Age franchise, Collision Course.
