Master P’s life story is heading to the big screen and Grammy/Emmy/Golden Globe-winning Queen Latifah is slated to star! The biopic, entitled King of the South, will begin shooting this summer. Wendell Pierce (The Wire, Treme) is also set to star.

According to the film’s website, they are looking for actors to play Master P, Silkk the Shocker, C-Murder, Mia X and others, and a casting call will be held for New Orleans natives in Gretna, Louisiana on April 4. Per a statement from Master P, “I would like to give New Orleans natives an opportunity to play major roles in this film, I want the movie to have an authentic feel. I believe there are so many talented actors and actresses that just need a shot.”

“The timing is right for me to tell my story, it was tough back then especially being from the South, New Orleans was the murder capital at the time,” Master P said. “I want others to learn from my mistakes and understand my work ethic of never giving up, no matter what it may look like.”

Latifah currently stars in the Lee Daniel’s Fox musical drama, Star, and will also be starring in the upcoming buddy comedy Girls Trip. Given Queen Latifah’s extensive hip-hop background and overall legacy, we’re sure she’ll be an integral part of the project! We look forward to it!
