Queen Latifah and Jada Pinkett-Smith are currently in negotiations to star in Girl Trip alongside Regina Hall. The film is currently set up at Universal Pictures and will be written by Kenya Barris (Black-ish) and Tracy Oliver (Barbershop: The Next Cut). Malcolm D. Lee is set to direct this project, and Will Packer will produce.
Girl Trip revolves around four lifelong friends who travel to New Orleans for the annual Essence Festival and rediscover their sisterhoods and wild sides through dancing, drinking, brawling and romancing.
This film will reunite Queen Latifah and Jada Pinkett for the first time on screen since the 1996 classic film Set it Off.
Latifah recently appeared in the drama Miracles From Heaven, and on the TV side, she played the Wiz on The Wiz Live! and won a Golden Globe nomination for her starring role in Bessie on HBO. She can be seen next in the Lee Daniels-directed TV pilot Star, and will lend her voice to the next movie in the Ice Age franchise, Collision Course. Pinkett Smith currently stars in Gotham, and can be seen next in the upcoming comedy, Bad Moms which will be released July 29th.
Girl Trip is slated to open on July 21, 2017.
