Earlier this year, it was announced that Oprah Winfrey was in talks to star in Lee Daniels’ remake of Terms of Endearment. Per The Hollywood Reporter, it’ll be a complete makeover!

Winfrey will be playing the role originally played by Shirley MacLaine. The Empire co-creator sat down with THR’s Stephen Galloway at the Loyola Marymount’s Hollywood Master series revealing key plot details of the remake, which will be set in the ’80s and include a storyline about black men who brought HIV/AIDS to their female partners.

“I’ve got to tell stories that are important to me, and so many African-American women died,” said Daniels. “I want to make Flap [played by Jeff Daniels in the 1983 film] gay and infect the Debra Winger character. And then we explore the ’80s in a different way.”

Media juggernaut Oprah Winfrey has unsurprisingly been a busy bee with her OWN network carrying successful and powerful series such as Queen Sugar and Greenleaf as well as CBS’ recent announcement that she will be joining 60 Minutes as a special contributor on the Sunday evening news magazine program starting in the fall of 2017.

With several other acting credits under her belt — including an Academy Award nomination — we’re sure Winfrey will be a fabulous lead for the upcoming remake and we look forward to seeing it!
