WATCH: Octavia Spencer Stars in New Lionsgate Film ‘The Shack’

The trailer for the upcoming faith-based film, The Shack, has been released by Lionsgate.  The film stars Octavia Spencer, Sam Worthington, and Tim McGraw, and revolves around the New York Times bestseller by William P. Young.

The Shack revolves around Mack Phillips (Worthington) who is grieving after the abduction of his young daughter. He receives a mysterious note from ‘Papa’, which is his wife’s name for God, urging him to go to an abandoned shack deep in the Oregon wilderness. Upon arrival he encounters an enigmatic trio of strangers led by a woman named Papa (Spencer). Through this meeting, Mack finds not only important truths that will transform his understanding of his tragedy but also learns about himself.

The screenplay was written by John Fusco and produced by Gil Netter, Brad Cummings and executive produced by Mike Drake, and is set to be released in theaters March 3.

Spencer is currently set to star in the upcoming blockbuster film Hidden Figures alongside Taraji P. Henson and Janelle Monae, and has teamed up with Vince Gilligan (Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul) and Michelle MacLaren (Breaking Bad) to executive produce a drama based on Jim Jones and the deadly 1978 Peoples Temple Agricultural Project known as Jonestown titled Raven.
