Disney Channel has given a direct-to-series order to Gabby Duran & The Unsittables, a live-action comedy based on the novel by Elise Allen and Daryle Conners, and Nzingha Stewart is set to direct the first episode.

With more than 20 directing credits to her name, Stewart has worked on such shows as Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, How to Get Away with Murder, UnREAL, and Pretty Little Liars. She has been lauded as one of TV’s hottest directors, and her 2015 Lifetime movie With This Ring, became one of the five most-viewed movies on Lifetime that year and a cable television ratings success among women. She currently has another movie with Lifetime in production.

Gabby Duran & The Unsittables focuses on Gabby Duran (played by newcomer Kylie Cantrall), who feels like she’s living in the shadows of her sophisticated, successful mother and clever and smart younger sister. She finally finds her purpose when she inadvertently lands an out-of-this-world job to babysit a group of very important extraterrestrial children who are hiding out on Earth with their families, disguised as everyday kids. Gabby steps up to the challenge to protect these kids and their secret identities, and prove she’s the best babysitter in the galaxy.

Starring alongside Cantrall are Maxwell Acee Donovan (Good Kids) as Gabby’s conspiracy-theorist friend Wesley; Coco Christo (We Take the Low Road) as Gabby’s little sister Olivia; Nathan Lovejoy (The Code) as the wacky Principal Swift; and Valery Ortiz (Switched at Birth) as Gabby’s mom Dina. Production on the series is ongoing in Vancouver for a 2019 premiere.

We look forward to seeing more from Nzingha Stewart as she continues to rise as a black female director in Hollywood!
