WATCH: Niecy Nash Shares How She Landed Her First Role

Niecy Nash discusses during a round table conversation with The Hollywood Reporter the moment that she knew that acting was her calling and how she landed her first job in Hollywood as an actress.

“I didn’t know you had to have an agent and a manager to get an audition.  I just called somebody I met at a workshop, and was like”I don’t know if you remember me…And I said ‘This is Niecy Nash.  I’m broke I have a baby, and I need a job,’ and he  told me to be down there at three o’ clock.  That was my first producer session for a feature film.”

“I did the movie Boys on the Side. And my scene was with Whoopie Goldberg.  It was my first job as an actress.”

Nash starred in 5 seasons of the TV One series The Soul Man, and also starred in the critically acclaimed HBO series Getting On where she received an Emmy Award nomination for her role on the show in 2015.  She was featured in Ava DuVernay’s historical film Selma, and went on to join the cast of Fox comedy series, The Mindy Project in a recurring role.  Last year, Nash was cast in the Fox comedy, Brooklyn Nine-Nine in a recurring role, and can be seen next in season 2 of the horror-comedy anthology series, Scream Queens on Fox.  She is set to star in TNT’s hour long scripted dramedy, Claws.  Nash will also guest star in Season 4 of Showtime’s hit series, Masters of Sex.
