Actress Nicole Ari Parker (Almost Christmas) is set for a recurring role opposite Forest Whitaker on Fox’s hit hip-hop drama series Empire.

Parker will play Giselle Barker, Eddie Barker’s (Whitaker) beautiful trophy ex-wife. Her character will be introduced in Wednesday’s mid-season finale.

Season 4 has seen Lucious (Terrence Howard) battling to regain his physical and mental faculties after the explosion and Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) with her own challenges, revisiting her traumatic 17 years in prison in a series of flashbacks.

Parker is known for her breakout role on the hit series Soul Food. Since then she has starred in classic films such as Dancing in September written and directed by Reggie Rock Bythewood, Brown Sugar directed by Rick Famuyiwa, Malcolm D. Lee’s Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins, King’s Ransom directed by Jeff Byrd, and 35 and Ticking written and directed by Russ Parr. Most recently, she was a recurring cast member on the FOX series Rosewood alongside Morris Chestnut, and was most recently seen on the big screen in Universal Pictures’ holiday film Almost Christmas alongside Danny Glover, Gabrielle Union and Mo’Nique and TV One’s original film Downsized in which she stars opposite husband Boris Kodjoe.
