BET has announced additional cast members for its three-part miniseries New Edition: The Movie. La La La Anthony (Power), Yvette Nicole Brown (The Office; The New Odd Couple), Monica Calhoun (The Best Man), Lisa Nicole Carson (Ally McBeal) and Sandi McCree (The Wire) have all been tapped to play the mothers of the iconic 1980s R&B/ pop group.

Anthony will play Flo DeVoe, mother of the young Ronnie DeVoe, Brown will play Michael Bivins’ mother Shirley Bivins, Calhoun is Ralph Tresvant’s mother Patricia Tresvant, Carson will play Ricky Bell’s mother Mae Bell and McCree is Bobby Brown’s mother Carole Brown.

The miniseries follows the group from their humble beginnings as kids in Boston to global megastardom – weathering the highs and lows of controversy, personnel changes, and the ultimate cost of fame.

Other cast members include Bryshere Gray (Empire), who will star as Micheal Bivins, Elijah Kelley (The Butler) as Ricky Bell, singer-songwriter Luke James will play Johnny Gill, Algee Smith is set to portray Ralph Tresvant, Keith Powers (Straight Outta Compton) as Ronnie Devoe, and Woody McClain (Autographs) as Bobby Brown.

New Edition: The Movie is executive produced by Jesse Collins (Real Husband’s of Hollywood’s), written by Abdul Williams (Lottery Ticket), and will be directed by Chris Robinson and co-produced by Brooke Payne, Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, Ronnie DeVoe, Johnny Gill, Ralph Tresvant and Bobby Brown.
