Netflix has had a huge presence at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and we can add another acquisition to the books! Netflix has acquired worldwide rights to Jim Strouse’s comedy, The Incredible Jessica James, before its world premiere as the festival’s Closing Night film. With this acquisition, the film will be dubbed a Netflix original and launch globally this year to Netflix viewers in 190 countries.

The film stars Jessica Williams of The Daily Show fame as a former correspondent, as a young aspiring playwright in New York City as she struggles to get over a breakup. She is forced to go on a date with a recent divorcé, Boone (Chris O’Dowd) and the unlikely pair navigate the social media obsessed post-relationship universe. Lakeith Stanfield and Noël Wells co-star.

Williams left The Daily Show last year, after four years of being on the show, to work on a scripted project of her own for Comedy Central alongside Naomi Ekperigin.  In addition to her upcoming scripted project, she has a podcast titled 2 Dope Queens, which she produces with fellow comedienne Phoebe Robinson.
