Super producer Shonda Rhimes is being honored as the MIPCOM Personality of the Year. MIPCOM is the largest content marketplace in Cannes where industry execs are granted the opportunity to buy and sell new programs and formats for international distribution. The tribute to Rhimes will take place at a gala dinner attended by leading international TV execs at the Carlton Hotel on Oct.18. While at Mipcom, Rhimes will also deliver a Media Mastermind keynote.

Rhimes made history as the first African American woman to create and executive produce a Top 10 network series with hit prime time show Grey’s Anatomy, and in the 2016-17 broadcast season Rhimes will make history again by having five series on ABC; Grey’sAnatomyScandalHow to Get Away With Murder, The Catch, and the latest addition Still Star-Crossed.  She is also in development on her first comedy pilot Toast starring Jerrika Hinton.

In addition to providing ABC with a full night of programming, Rhimes has partnered with Norman Lear (Sanford and Son, All in the Family, Good Times) to create America Divided, a new Epix docu-series executive produced by Common that explores the inequality within America. The series will premiere on Epix during the run-up to the 2016 presidential election. On the film side, Rhimes is in negotiations with Fox 2000 for the life rights of the online personalities known as The Dare Divas, based on the lives of the Detroit group of friends who are devoted to living their lives to the fullest.
