Oscar-nominated actress Gabourey Sidibe (Empire) will be diving into transparency with her new memoir, This is Just My Face: Try Not To Stare.  The memoir will be released in May, and Sidibe will discuss her weight-loss surgery from last year after being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. She revealed in an excerpt published earlier this week by People magazine that she underwent the bariatric procedure in May.

She noted that she did not have the surgery for physical appearance, but to improve her health and move with more ease, “Surgery ‘wasn’t the easy way out,” and added, “Beauty doesn’t come from a mirror.” She confirmed that she also changed her eating habits and is working with a trainer.

Sidibe made her acting debut in the 2009 film Precious, which earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress in a Leading Role. From there, she went on to star in the Showtime series The Big C. Sidibe also co-starred in American Horror Story: Coven, American Horror Story: Freak Show and American Horror Story: Hotel. In 2015, she scored the role as Becky Williams in the Fox hit musical drama Empire.

We’re very excited for  Sidibe and we’re sure this upcoming memoir will be an inspiration!
