Mariah Carey is set to guest star on the Fox hit series Empire.  Carey will play a superstar singer named Kitty, who collaborates with Jussie Smollett’s character, Jamal Lyon, on a new song.  Lyon has a creative block until Kitty helps him deal with some personal issues to make the song work.  Carey’s episode will air on October 5th.

This episode will mark the third collaboration between Carey and series creator Lee Daniels.  Daniels directed Carey in both Precious and The Butler.

Other guest stars confirmed for season three, which debuts Sept. 21, include actor Taye Diggs and rapper French Montana.

Recently Carey has been making major moves in television.  She made her directorial debut with Hallmark’s original film A Christmas Melody, and was responsible for Hallmark’s most watched holiday special, Mariah Carey’s Merriest Christmas. Carey also inked a three-picture deal with the Hallmark Channel to develop, executive produce, and star in the network’s original films.  She will also compose original songs for each film that she stars in.  It has also been reported that she is currently producing original movies with Stella Bulochnikov, and her eight part docu-series, Mariah’s World, will make it’s debut on E! on December 4th.
