Per Deadline, Mara Brock Akil (Girlfriends, The Game, Being Mary Jane) has signed with CAA! The star TV series creator and showrunner has created three successful series: the popular comedy Girlfriends, which ran for eight seasons on UPN and the CW, its spinoff The Game, which aired for nine seasons on the CW and BET, and the hit drama Being Mary Jane, now in its fourth season on BET.

Brock Akil, a long-time client of ICM Partners (at which she still remains), and her husband and frequent collaborator Salim Akil are under a big overall deal at Warner Bros TV for their Akil Prods banner. Under the pact, they wrote and are executive producing the CW’s drama pilot Black Lightning, based on the DC character, for WBTV and studio-based Berlanti Prods.

Brock Akil first began her career in 1994 writing for the critically acclaimed Fox series, South Central. She went on to write for Moesha for four seasons and later served as Supervising Producer and writer on The Jamie Foxx Show. It’s no argument that Brock Akil has a significant industry history under her belt!

With CAA being a major agency and Mara Brock Akil being a major player in Hollywood, this is sure to be a powerhouse duo!
