It’s official! Our favorite superhero series, Black Lightning, will be back for a second season!

The CW has given an early renewal to freshman series Black Lightning in addition to 4 additional DC superhero series including The Flash (Season 5), Arrow (Season 7), Supergirl (Season 4), Legends of Tomorrow (Season Supernatural was picked up for a 14th season, and Jane the Virgin (Season 5) and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (Season 4) have also been renewed.

Written by Salim Akil and Mara Brock Akil, based on the DC character created by Tony Isabella with Trevor Von Eeden, Black Lightning centers on Jefferson Pierce (Cress Williams).  Jefferson Pierce is a school principal who serves in both his day job and at night, as the electric-powered superhero Black Lightning to make his city a safer place.  In addition to Williams, the series stars Christine Adams as his ex-wife Lynn, Nafessa Williams as his oldest daughter Anissa, and China Anne McClain as his youngest daughter Jennifer.

It’s not clear yet when the Black Lightning season 2 premiere will be; however, since season one was released mid-season in January, it makes sense that we could expect the same for season 2.  The earliest we will see Black Lightning season 2 is October 2018, but certainly no later than January 2019. We’ll update this with official confirmation as soon as we have it.
