Lorraine Toussaint (Orange is the New Black, Rosewood) has signed on to the drama thriller Fast Color, joining Gugu Mbatha-Raw, whose casting we recently reported on here at HBR!

Fast Color is directed by Julia Hart and produced by Oscar-nominated Jordan Horowitz (La La Land) under his Original Headquarters banner and LD Entertainment’s Mickey Liddell and Pete Shilaimon (Jackie).

In this upcoming drama-thriller project, Mbatha-Raw will Ruth, a woman who is forced to go on the run when her superhuman abilities are discovered. Now, years after having abandoned her family, the only place she has left to hide is home. Toussaint will play Bo, Ruth’s mother.

Toussaint, originally known as a lead actress for her role as Rene Jackson in Lifetime’s Any Day Now and her recurring role as defense attorney Shambala Green in NBC’s Law & Order. Her other credits include Crossing Jordan, Saving Grace, Ugly Betty, Friday Night Lights, Body of Proof, Forever, and The Fosters. She is a SAG Award and Critics’ Choice Award winner and NAACP Image Award nominee for her extraordinary performance as inmate Vee on Netflix’s Orange Is the New Black. She also appeared in Selma and is starring in the second season of Fox’s Rosewood.
