Loretta Devine and Kimberly Elise are officially set to join the upcoming indie comedy Headshop alongside black-ish star Deon Cole.
Written and directed by Kim Bass the film revolves around therapist Dr. Latrice Monroe who, after a devastating loss, tries to reconnect to her roots by opening her new office in a neighborhood that’s very resistant to her services. As her new neighbors slowly open up, they inadvertently teach her the true meaning of community.
Michael Jai White, Reno Wilson, Marla Gibbs, Tony Plana, Kris Marshall, Donis Leonard Jr., and Claudia Zevallos also star in the film, which is currently shooting in Los Angles.
John Cappetta and Deanna Shapiro are exec producing.
Devine has starred in countless television series’ over the course of two decades. She starred in the Fox drama series Boston Public, and won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series in 2011 or her recurring role as Adele Webber on the Shonda Rhimes’ Grey’s Anatomy. In addition to her television roles, she is known for her classic roles in Waiting to Exhale, The Preacher’s Wife, Woman Thou Art Loosed, For Colored Girls, This Christmas and Jumping the Broom. Most recently she starred as Cynthia Carmichael on the NBC comedy The Carmichael Show.
Elise has starred in several classic films such as Set It Off, Woman Thou Art Loosed, and John Q. In 2010 she starred in Tyler Perry’s For Colored Girls, and is currently a series regular on the VH1 series Hit The Floor.
