ABC given its third 2017 pilot order to a legal series from Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers’ Shondaland. The new series is written by Scandal’s writer-producer Paul William Davies and will be executive produced by Rhimes and Beers.
Set in the Southern District of New York (SDNY) Federal Court, aka “The Mother Court,” the legal drama revolves around brand new lawyers working for both the defense and the prosecution as they handle the most high profile and high stakes cases in the country – all as their personal lives intersect.
Shondaland currently has five drama’s on the air on ABC. Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, How To Get Away with Murder, The Catch and the upcoming Still Star-Crossed. This will be the first pilot season for Shondaland since its dramatic expansion last summer and fall as the company transformed itself to a fully functioning pod with its own infrastructure via six executive hires and promotions.
In addition to her existing ABC lineup, Rhimes is also in negotiations with Fox 2000 for an upcoming film revolving around the online personalities known as The Dare Divas, and teamed up with Jesse Williams, Norman Lear, and Common to produce the powerful docu-series titled American Divided.
