Khandi Alexander (CSI: Miami) will be returning to CBS with a co-starring role opposite Alan Cumming and Bojana Novakovic in the network’s drama pilot Instinct!

Based on the upcoming book by James Patterson, Instinct follows Dylan (Cumming), a former CIA operative who has since built a “normal” life as a gifted professor and writer, but is eventually pulled back into his old life when the NYPD needs his help to stop a serial killer on the loose. Alexander is set to play Lizzi’s (Novakovic) police superior. The pilot is written by Michael Rauch and directed by Marc Webb.

A seven-season alum of CSI: Miami, Alexander has co-starred on HBO’s Treme and recurred as Olivia Pope’s untrustworthy mother Maya on ABC’s Scandal, the latter of which earned her a
Primetime Emmy nomination. She also recently co-starred opposite Mark Wahlberg in Patriot’s Day for Lionsgate. She also received a Critics’ Choice Television Award nomination for playing Bessie Smith’s sister in the HBO film Bessie. She has a number of TV guest appearances under her belt such as Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, NYPD Blue, Third Watch, Cosby, Better Off Ted, La Femme Nikita, and Body of Proof. Other credits include CB4, Joshua Tree, What’s Love Got to Do with It, Poetic Justice, and Sugar Hill.

As accomplished as Alexander is, this is definitely a good choice on CBS’ part and we look forward to her portrayal and what is shaping up to be an intriguingly dramatic show!
