Kerry Washington will be playing Anita Hill in the new HBO film Confirmation alongside Wendell Pierce who will be playing Clarence Thomas in the recreation of the 1991 Supreme Court nomination hearings.

After the death of Justice Thurgood Marshall in the early ’90s, Clarence Thomas (Wendell Pierce) became the frontrunner to replace the first African American Supreme Court Justice. But that legacy was soon destroyed as Anita Hill (Kerry Washington) came forward to testify against Thomas, stating that she had been sexually harassed by him while serving as his attorney-adviser during his time at the United States Department of Education.

Her participation in Thomas’s Supreme Court nomination hearings became a pivotal moment in American culture and changed the way the workplace dealt with equality and gender politics.

The film is directed by Rick Famuyiwa, and also stars Greg Kinnear, Jennifer Hudson, Eric Stonestreet (Modern Family), Jeffrey Wright (Boardwalk Empire) and Alison Wright (The Americans‘)
