EBONY has unveiled their March 2017 cover and the star of WGN America’s hit series Underground, Jurnee Smollett-Bell is the issue’s spotlight! The 30-year-old actress chatted with EBONY about activism, the hit civil war drama, and Hollywood’s colorism.

“There are obstacles and challenges that my dark-skinned sisters face that I will never know,” Smollett-Bell, mused. “How they are perceived when they walk in the room of strangers is something I will never truly know. I would be ignorant to say colorism doesn’t exist, it’s gross and disgusting.”

In honor of Women’s History Month, EBONY’s March issue is devoted to uplifting Black women. EBONY Editor-in-Chief and Senior Vice President, Head of Editorial, Kyra Kyles stressed the issues importance, noting, “It is no exaggeration when we talk about Black Girl Magic. Black women truly hold our community together. It is an honor to be able to celebrate ‘us’ in this issue.”
