Jennifer Hudson is set to star in another big screen version of the long-time running musical Cats.  Hudson will be playing the lead role of Grizabella, a character whose signature song “Memory” is one of the most recognizable songs on Broadway.

It was reported that the film would be directed by Oscar-winning director Tom Hooper, whose has prior experience with musicals as the director of “Les Misérables.”

Hudson will share the screen with Taylor Swift, James Corden and Ian McKellen. Their roles in the film adaptation have not been announced.

Hudson won the world over in 2007 with her Academy Award-winning performance as Effie White in the film adaptation of the play Dreamgirls, and went on to star in The Secret Life of Bees, Sex and The CityThink Like A Man, and Lullaby.  She has appeared on the hit Fox series Empire, the NBC musical, Hairspray Live,  Spike Lee’s musical film Chi-Raq and the HBO filmConfirmation, alongside Kerry Washington.  In addition to all of her film and television credits, Hudson starred in the acclaimed Broadway revival of The Color Purple and received the Tony for Best Revival of a Musical in 2016.
