Academy Award winning actress, Jennifer Hudson, is set to star as Adam Sandler’s love interest in the Netflix comedy, Sandy Wexler. The film revolves around Sandy Wexler (Sandler), a talent manager working in Los Angeles in the 1990s, who diligently represents a group of eccentric clients on the fringes of show business.  His single-minded devotion is put to the test when he falls in love with his newest client, Courtney Clarke (Hudson), a tremendously talented singer who he discovers at an amusement park.

 The script was written by Sandler, Paul Sado, and Dan Bulla, and Sandler will also produce alongside Happy Madison Productions’ Allen Covert. Barry Bernardi and Tim Herlihy will serve as executive producer.

Sandy Wexler is scheduled to begin shooting in Los Angeles on Aug. 2, and will start streaming in all Netflix territories in 2017.

Hudson recently wrapped up a run in the acclaimed Broadway revival of The Color Purple. She won the world over in 2007 with her Academy Award-winning performance as Effie White in the film adaptation of the play Dreamgirls, and went on to star in The Secret Life of Bees, Sex and The CityThink Like A Man, and Lullaby.  Most recently, she appeared on the hit Fox series Empire, and will star in the NBC musical, Hairspray Live. Hudson is also in negations to play the legendary Aretha Franklin in the Aretha Franklin biopic.
