The prestigious Peabody Award nominees for 2018 were announced today, and Issa Rae’s hit HBO series Insecure received a nomination in the entertainment category!

Insecure contains themes from Rae’s highly acclaimed web series, The Misadventures Of Awkward Black Girl, which garnered over 20 million views and nearly 200,000 YouTube subscribers. It explores the black female experience in an unclichéd and authentic way, and revolves around the friendship of two modern day black women and their uncomfortable experiences and racy tribulations. Issa tries to figure out what and who she wants in life, and how to take control of it. Meanwhile, Molly is a successful corporate attorney who appears to have it all but struggles inside as she looks for external ways to fix her life.  The series also touches on social and racial issues in addition to issues that relate to the contemporary black experience.

The series stars Issa Rae, Yvonne Orji, Jay Ellis, Lisa Joyce, Neil Brown, Jr and is created and executive produced by Issa Rae. Prentice Penny (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) serves as showrunner and executive producer alongside Melina Matsoukas, (Beyonce’s Formation), Michael Rotenberg, Dave Becky and Jonathan Berry.

The Peabody Awards will announce the Entertainment winner on April 19th while a ceremony will be held honoring all the winners on May 19th.
