HBO has unveiled an official trailer for The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, adapted from the book of the same name, telling the story of Henrietta Lacks.
Based on the New York Times bestseller by Rebecca Skloot, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks revolves around the story of Henrietta Lacks, played by Renée Elise Goldsberry, a poor mother living in Baltimore who died of cervical cancer in 1951 at the age of 31. Told through the eyes of her daughter, Deborah Lacks (Winfrey), the film chronicles her search to learn about the mother she never knew and to understand how the unauthorized harvesting of Lacks’ cancerous cells in 1951 led to unprecedented medical breakthroughs, changing countless lives and the face of medicine forever. The cast also includes Leslie Uggams, Rose Byrne, Courtney B. Vance, Lisa Arrindell, and Reed Birney.
Winfrey and Alan Ball (True Blood) serve as executive producers alongside Peter Macdissi (Banshee), Carla Gardini (The Hundred-Foot Journey) and Lydia Dean Pilcher (You Don’t Know Jack), a Your Face Goes Here Entertainment, Harpo Films and Cine Mosaic production. Rebecca Skloot serves as co-executive producer, and Henrietta Lacks’ sons David Lacks, Jr. and Zakariyya Rahman and granddaughter Jeri Lacks are consultants on the project.
