ARRAY’s ‘HoneyTrap’ Opens at Urbanworld Film Festival & Receives Theatrical Release Dates

HoneyTrap, the most recent film acquisition by Ava DuVernay’s film distribution company ARRAY, will officially open at the Urbanworld Film Festival as a special presentation on Friday, Sept. 23, 2016 at AMC Empire Theater 12 in New York, and will then have releases and/or one night only screenings around the country (schedule is listed below).  It will then be released on Netflix on Monday October 3rd.

Written and directed by Rebecca Johnson, the film will revolve around 15-year old Layla, who has recently moved from Trinidad to Brixton, as she navigates between gang culture, power, bullying, sex, romance and betrayal. Honeytrap stars Jessica Sula (Recovery Road), Lucien Laviscount (Scream Queens), Naomi Ryan (Guardians of the Galaxy), and Ntonga Mwanza (Leave To Remain). Honeytrap will receive a limited release in September.

“Director Rebecca Johnson has crafted a bewitching tale from a young woman’s perspective with a cast of fresh new talent. We’re excited to introduce Honeytrap to its US audience with this captivating voice in filmmaking.” – Tilane Jones, ARRAY Executive Director

DuVernay launched ARRAY in 2010 under the name African-American Film Festival Releasing Movement (AFFRM).  In 2015 the company re-branded itself as ARRAY and expanded its focus to release and champion films by black filmmakers from the African diaspora, as well as women and other filmmakers of color.  Since its inception in 2010, DuVernay and her team at ARRAY have committed themselves wholeheartedly to finding ways to expose films by people of color and women to audiences across the country.
