Heather Headley gets an upgrade to series regular for Chicago Med’s fourth season. Headley’s character of Gwen Garrett was introduced in the final episode of the last season. She plays a Harvard graduate who is hired to rein in costs, and immediately bumps heads with Sharon Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson).

Chicago Med chronicles the daily lives of the doctors, nurses and staff employed at the city’s newest state-of-the-art trauma center.

Nick Gehlfuss, Torrey DeVitto, Colin Donnell, Norma Kuhling, Oliver Platt, Rachel DiPillo, Brian Tee, S. Epatha Merkerson, Yaya DaCosta and Marlyne Barrett star.

Headley previously performed in the hit Tony-winning musical The Lion King in the role of Nala, and her debut album This Is Who I Am earned her Grammy nominations for Best New Artist and Best Female R&B Vocal Performance. She won the 2009 Grammy for Best Contemporary R&B Gospel Album for Audience of One. She recently portrayed Dr. Jamison in She’s Gotta Have It for Netflix.
