Academy Award winning actress Halle Berry has joined the Sony Pictures remake of the 1985 thriller Jagged Edge.  She will star in the thriller alongside Steven Bersch.

The film original stars Jeff Bridges who plays a powerful San Francisco publisher whose wife is brutally murdered in their isolated oceanside home. After an investigation reveals that he stood to inherit his wife’s entire fortune, he is arrested and charged with the murder.  Glenn Close plays his defense attorney. At first, she insists she has retired from courtroom cases, but then Bridges convinces her that he is innocent. And before long, she is also convinced that they are in love.  Even though the lawyer is falling in love, she can’t shake the feeling that something isn’t quite right with the case, with the killer sending anonymous notes pecked out on an old typewriter. Is Jack the key to a happy future for the lawyer if she can get him acquitted in a courtroom, or is he a sociopath?

Weimaraner Republic Pictures’ Leshem has had success in female-driven thrillers, and Belgrad as an exec supervised the sleeper shark hit The Shallows, which made for an easy team up on this.

Berry’s last feature releases were Kingsman: Golden Circle and Kidnap.  Berry is currently set to star in Kings, directed by Turkish-French director Deniz Gamze Ergüven (Mustang).  Kings revolves around the 1992 riots that took place in South Central Los Angeles after a jury acquitted four LA police officers for the use of excessive force in the beating of Rodney King.  She is also and set to star in Adrian Lyne’s feature film, Silence alongside Michael Douglas.
