Award winning actress Gugu Mbatha-Raw has joined the upcoming thriller Motherless Brooklyn written and directed by Edward Norton.  She will be starring in the film alongside Bruce Willis, Alec Baldwin, Cherry Jones, Ethan Suplee, Leslie Mann, Josh Pais, Fisher Stevens, Michael K. Williams,Willem Dafoe, and Robert Wisdom.

Inspired by Jonathan Lethem’s novel of the same name, set in 1950s NY, the film follows Lionel Essrog (Norton), a lonely private detective afflicted with Tourette’s Syndrome, as he ventures to solve the murder of his mentor and only friend, Frank Minna (Willis). Armed only with a few clues and the powerful engine of his obsessive mind, Lionel unravels closely-guarded secrets that hold the fate of the whole city in the balance.

Motherless Brooklyn is currently shooting in New York City.

Mbatha-Raw recently starred opposite Emma Watson in Beauty and the Beast.  Her recent credits also include Miss Sloane, and the “San Junipero” episode of Netflix’s Black Mirror.  She was recently seen in Paramount’s Cloverfield, and can been seen next in Disney’s A Wrinkle in Time directed by Ava DuVernay, and in Farming, the directorial debut from Nigerian-British writer-director Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje.
