Golden Brooks has joined Amandla Stenberg in the upcoming Fox thriller Darkest Minds.

The film is an adaptation of Alexandra Bracken’s YA trilogy in which a pandemic kills most of America’s children and teenagers. Those who survive develop superpowers and are imprisoned by the government.

Brooks will play the mother of Ruby Daly (Amandla Stenberg).  Ruby’s powers come from an epidemic that kills off the majority of the children and teenagers in the Darkest Minds universe. Much like the other surviving young people who survived the mass wave of illness, Ruby is incarcerated in an internment camp for super powered teens, and naturally attempts to escape.

Darkest Minds will be directed by Jennifer Yuh Nelson (King Fu Panda), written by Chad Hodge, and produced by Shawn Levy through his 21 Laps banner.

Brooks is best known for her role on the UPN hit series Girlfriends.  Recently, she starred in the Starz series Blunt Talk as a recurring character.  Her other credits include Beauty Shop, Hell’s Kitchen, A Beautiful Soul, and The Great Divide.
