NBC’s TV series version of the Bad Boys film franchise is moving forward with a pilot order with with female leads!

The untitled project from producer Jerry Bruckheimer stars Gabrielle Union who reprises her Bad Boys II role as “free-spirited former DEA agent Syd Burnett [who] has a fresh start in her new job as an LAPD detective. She’s partnered with Nancy McKenna [not yet cast], a working mom who can’t help but look at Syd’s freedom with some grass-is-greener envy. These two have totally different lifestyles and approaches, but they both are at the top of their fields in this action-packed, character-driven procedural.”

The series is inspired by the 1995 hit film’s 2003 sequel; however, the show won’t be able to use the Bad Boys title, and isn’t technically related to the film (due to legal reasons). So for the time being this project is titled Untitled Gabrielle Union project.

Union is currently starring in the BET series Being Mary Jane. The series will be wrapping next year after airing on the network for four season with a two-hour movie on the network in 2018. She has starred in films such as Birth of a Nation and Almost Christmas. She also co-starred alongside Jamie Foxx in Sleepless, and will soon serve as exec producer on an upcoming ABC single-camera comedy White Dave from filmmaker David E. Talbert (First Sunday, Almost Christmas).
