Gabrielle Dennis (Insecure, Rosewood) has joined the cast of the sophomore season of Luke Cage.  She joins the series alongside Mustafa Shakir (The Deuce, The Night Of).

The series was created for Netflix by Cheo Hodari Coker and is based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name.  Mike Colter stars as Luke Cage, a former convict with superhuman strength and unbreakable skin who now fights crime. Simone Missick, Theo Rossi, Rosario Dawson, and Alfre Woodard also star in the series.  The series is filmed in New York City, and replicates the unique culture and atmosphere of Harlem.

Dennis will star in the series as Tilda Johnson, “a brilliant, holistic doctor with a complicated history in Harlem where, as much as she tries to stay far from trouble, it seems to always find her.”  In the comics, Tilda Johnson grew up in Harlem with a special gift for science. Feeling she needed to get out of her humble environment, she turned to her abilities and started a life of crime. This got her to team up with fellow baddie Yellow Claw and eventually got her into an altercation with CaptaiAmerica, Falcon and S.H.I.E.L.D.

Shakir’s character, John McIver, is described as “a natural leader, brimming with charisma, whose mission is focused on Harlem and vengeance.” In the comics, he’s also known as a crime boss called Bushmaster and boasts superhuman strength.  “I can’t wait for audiences to see the compelling paces we put both Mustafa and Gabrielle through,” says Coker. “I feel they will be powerful additions to the world of Marvel and Harlem’s Luke Cage.”

Luke Cage will be back on Netflix in 2018.
