While Upfronts season is exciting for new projects, it can also be brutal with the array of cancellations. Fox’s Lee Daniels musical drama Star may be on its way to the chopping block!

Quite the ripple effect has been happening behind the scenes of the Fox show. For one, its original showrunner Charles Murray left Star in September 2016 ahead of the December series premiere and Chuck Pratt took over the reins for the debut season. However, Pratt will be on his way out the door as well after one season. This past February, Star was renewed for a second season, but given the shaken tables, things aren’t looking too promising.

A drama series following three young singers as they navigate the cut-throat music business, Star features Queen Latifah, Benjamin Bratt, Jude Demorest, Ryan Destiny, Brittany O’Grady, and Quincy Brown. Recurring cast members include Lenny Kravitz, Chad James Buchanan, Naomi Campbell, Tyrese Gibson, and Jasmine Burke. Missy Elliot and Paris Jackson guest starred in season one.

The first season of Star averaged a 1.34 rating in the 18-49 year old viewer demographic with 4.22 million viewers.

It’s unclear what the fate is for the musical drama, but we’ll keep our eyes and ears peeled for updates!
