It looks like the world of Black Panther is coming to Avengers: Infinity War as well as Tony Award winning actress Danai Gurira has been cast to star in the film. While no details have been revealed on her character, the site speculates that she will reprise her Black Panther character Okoye, described as “one of the ferocious female warriors who watch over the royal family of Chadwick Boseman’s character in Black Panther.”
Although her role has not been confirmed, we speculate that Gurira will be playing Okoye a member of the The Dora Milaje an elite group of femake Wakandian bodyguards. These awesome ladies appeared in the form of Ayo (Florence Kasumba) in Captain America: Civil War though she was not named as such in the movie. Avengers: Infinity War is the movie directly following Black Panther so it’s not that surprising that elements of Black Panther are making their way into Avengers: Infinity War. We look forward to learning more about the project as more details are released!
Gurira is a true renaissance woman who is an award-winning playwright and actress. She began writing plays to better utilize her strengths as an actor, and to tell stories that convey ideas about strong women with whom she identifies, and wound up making history on Broadway by creating the first all-black cast and crew with Eclipsed starring Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o. She joined the cast of The Walking Dead in 2012, and starred in Andrew Dosunmu’s independent dramas, Restless City in 2012 and in Mother of George in 2013. She can be seen next on the big screen in the highly anticipated TuPac biopic titled All Eyez On Me, where she will portray the hip-hop icon’s mother, Afeni Shakur. The film hits theaters this Friday, June 16th.
